President's Report
Joyce Hundhausen 630.464.0209 joyce@svs.com

Hi Everyone!  Happy Holidays!

This has been a great year for our club…and I am honored to have been president this year.  We should be very proud of ourselves for all the accomplishments this year.   We have donated a lot of time and money into our projects and it shows.   I would like to thank all of you for your dedication to this club and its events.

Our Christmas party promises to be great….of course because all of us will be together for this special time of year.   Our agenda is almost nil until after the holidays.  We will however be installing our new officers.  We have a great board coming on which will make next year even more exciting.

I wish you all a happy and safe holiday season.

Have a Great Day!
Joyce Hundhausen

This year seemed to fly right by. While looking back, I have many memories that will last forever. To all of you that have helped me grow and prepare for the exciting year ahead, thank you! Learning about the General Federation of Woman's Clubs has helped me to understand even more of what our vision and purposes can be. A special thanks to Joyce Hundhausen, Judy Huyvaert, Jeanette Wells, Becki Tybor, Mary Wolski, Joanna Seebeck and Barb Kuminowski for always being available when questions needed answers.

I am so excited about next year and welcome any and all feedback that you can share to help build this club to even greater levels then we already are.

See you soon,
Laura

The two beneficiaries of the proceeds of our Candlelight Bowl voted on at the November meeting are: Jesse Flores, a little boy from Glendale Heights with Leukemia who received a foot bone marrow transplant last spring but still requires constant medical attention. And, The Silver Knights Baton Twirling Corps- a youth group based out of Glendale Heights who will compete at the World Championships in Holland next April. The proceeds will be used towards the cost of each twirlers USA Team Windsuit which will be worn throughout the week as well as during the opening ceremonies. The cost of each USA Team windsuit is approx. $150- the balance due after our donation will be covered by the parents.

'Tis the holidays! A time for caring and sharing!
In that spirit, let's show how much you care…
by doing a little sharing!

Here are some of the items that you can SHARE, that will help enrich the lives of others:

Old Cell Phones and Pagers
(These are given to crisis centers.)

Gently Used Jogging Clothes: Men's and Ladies - Any & All Sizes!
(These are given to rape victims, since often their clothing is taken as evidence,)

Old Videos, DVD's or other Educational Games
(These will be donated to school libraries and after school programs for at risk children.)

Holiday Cards - We actually only need the fronts panels where the pretty designs are.
(These are given to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.)

Old Blue Jeans
(These are used to make wheelchair accessory bags.)

Gently Used Outerwear (Coats, Hats, Gloves, Mittens, etc.): Men's, Ladies, & Children - Any & All Sizes!
(These will be given to the Red Cross and Virginia's Homeless Project.)

Please drop off your donations to Joanna Seebeck. Any questions: Call 630-400-0338

Just for fun!

A Puzzling Paragraph

This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so plain you would think nothing is wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it. It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching.

(Answer: What is odd about it? The letter e, the most  common letter in the English language, never appears in the paragraph)

Hello Ladies,

Just a reminder that we will be having a Recipe Exchange
at our Holiday Installation Banquet. So please write down
your favorite holiday dessert recipe on a recipe card so we
can share your family's best. (P.S. If you don't have one
for a dessert, just bring in your favorite!)

Then at next month's meeting we can share how great
the food turned out!

ON THE MOVE

Life is ever changing and my life is changing drastically. My husband has decided to retire after the end of this school year in June 2006. We have purchased property at Lake Summerset which is about 20-30 miles north and west of Rockford and will be building a house in which to retire. We hope to be moving in June/July. In addition, in April, my husband and I will be accompanying the Silver Knights to Amsterdam in the quest to win the world baton corps championship.

So it is with much regret that I will not be joining GHJWC next year. I will miss all of you very much. The club was part of my life for the last 12+ years and will leave a void in my life. The good news is that the association where we will be living has a woman's club that I intend to look into.

Best wishes to all of you and keep up the good work!

Love,
Barb Kuminowski
