President's Report

Hi Ladies!

Wow what a month! We had a great board meeting at Virginia’s. Thank you to Virginia for her hospitality. Miss DuPage was a wonderful event and two of the best girls won, of course. Laura did a great job as usual and thank you to all who helped out that night. A Great Big Thank You to our social committee, Cheryl Channic and Donna Bekas for a wonderful Chili Cook-off night. Attendance was good and all the chili’s smelled so wonderful.

Our General Meeting is scheduled for April 6th at Glendale Lakes, social 7:00 and 7:30 meeting. We will present the checks at this meeting for the Candlelight Bowl profits to C.A.S.A. and the DuPage Family Shelter Service. Also, Pam from the DFSS will give a short program and video on the Family Shelter Service.

Don’t forget that the Blue Ribbon Fashion Show is on April 10th and the Drury Lane event on April 15th. On April 16th we will have a blood drive at Glenside Fire Station, a big Thank You to Judy for her efforts on this new type of endeavor for our club.

April 18th is a Craft Night for the Art Department. It is at Ann’s around 7:00 PM, so mark your calendars.

May 19-21 is Convention, at Marriott Oakbrook. I am selling raffle tickets for some great prizes, they are one dollar each or 6 for five. I will have the tickets and list of prizes at the general meeting.

Our newsletter still needs a NAME. Any ideas should be sent to Laura to be entered on the ballot. Speaking of ballots, we will be entering and voting on the charities for the Fall Auction, so please be there to vote on this important event’s recipients. Also, we were discussing at board the possibility of buying long sleeved denim shirts to put our logo on, we can take a vote on this at the general meeting.

Please come to the general meeting on April 6th, as you can see it will be a very busy and informative night!

Joyce

Vice President's Report
Laura Burke 653-5664,  Lburke3942@aol.com

Greetings Everyone,
March was a long and busy month! With spring finally arriving, the year's activities are fully underway. If you aren't signed up for an upcoming event, there's still time to jump in on just about everything on the calendar. If you are signed up and ever need any assistance, please raise a hand. I have found that whenever there's a need, there are so many of our members that come to the rescue without hesitation. What a "team"!

I'd like to wish all of our members that are running for public office the best of luck on April 5th. It's amazing to see how many of you devote your time towards the bettering of your communities. There is no way to measure the amount of time and effort you all pour into your goals, but please know it's not without recognition. Good luck to all of you!

A huge thank you to this years membership committee! Not only are they moving forward full steam ahead but they (Jeanette and Judy) somehow find ways at each gathering to make our newest members feel warm and fuzzy.

Judy Huyvaert's Leadership presentation at our March General meeting was extremely enlightening. One of the handouts she provided was the "Ten Commandments for a Clubwoman". The meaning behind every one of the commandments is so important that it's worth repeating! Enjoy the reprint of these in this newsletter. Please see Judy if you didn't receive her handouts at the March meeting. Each page is worth keeping in your Club notebooks.

See you all on April 6!
Laura

Candlelight Bowl!

Great Fun and Great People! We had a wonderful turnout for the candlelight bowl. I want to thank Ann, Cheryl, Jeanette, Judy, and Laura for their help that night. I also want to thank all of you for working hard on selling tickets and making this event successful. We had several people donate the money back to us. $50.00 each came from Penny Zolecki, Kris Klemenok, and Don Storino. Another donation came from a $100.00 winner, C.I.A.C.O. They asked when they gave me the money back that I buy the kids at the Shelter, Easter Baskets, with our name and theirs attached. So, with the help of Walgreen’s and coupons, we provided 12 baskets with extra candy for each house, along with our new brochure and theirs. We will be giving C.A.S,A. and the DuPage Family Shelter $1715.00 each as a result of the bowl and the generosity of these special people.

Thank You!

Hi Everyone,

Believe it or not it is finally suppose to be spring?! First I would like to thank you everyone who attended the Annual Cook-off. Attendance was up from last year and I hope everyone who attended it had a great time. Please in the future, only sign up if you are planning to attend an event. In order for an event to go well purchases have to be made in advance: e.g. refreshments, paper goods etc all of which cost money based upon those who sign up. Such being with over 25% signing up and not attending that means additional purchases were made with no attendance means waste. Please keep that in mind when signing up you are being counted on by the chairperson organizing the event to be in there.

Future events for Junior Socials are as follows:

April will be the Blue Ribbon Fashion Show, which Jeanette has handled the reservations for.

May we will have our annual convention which is the weekend of the 20th. We are making hotels reservations and banquet reservations payment for all will be due at the April meeting. If you are interested please bring your check book

June we are going to do a Friday afternoon at Arlington Race Track which will begin at 3:00 PM followed by dinner at Maggianos in Schaumburg. Date to be determined if possible the 3rd Friday in June by then graduations etc should be over.

July/August social to be held at either Mary Wolskis' or Donna Bekas' just a relaxing evening with appetizers and drinks

We will be having a meeting at 7:00 PM just prior to the April meeting at the Golf Course for those interested in sharing ideas for the Social Committee to consider for future events. Any questions or comments please email me at  channic@msn.com or phone 630-830-2618.

Thank you and look forward to seeing you at the April meeting!

With hugs,

Cheryl 630-830-2618 or cell 630-202-2618 or email at channic@msn.com

Miss DuPage County Scholarship Program
Laura Burke 653-5664,
LBurke3942@aol.com

Wow! What a morning, day and night! There are so many of you to thank for all of your hard work. Special mention to Joanna Seebeck who spent over 14 hours that day working side by side with the judging panel. Joanna once again went above and beyond...so much so that the judges asked if they could take her with them on their next assignment! Thank you Joanna (and to Mark Seebeck for once again serving as the professional videographer for the entire show). A huge thank you also to Jeanette Wells who as always, was one step ahead in the thought process of manning the doors. For over an hour after the show started, Jeanette welcomed late arrivals without any disruption to the program. Donna Bekas gave her all starting at noon working with me and the contestants to make sure everything was handled well before showtime. Having Donna's helping hands and idea's truly helped this program run so smooth. When Joyce Hundhausen, Sue Dee's, Becki Tybor and Liann Holcomb showed up, the event was complete! Joyce, Sue and Becki greeted everyone while working the raffle and People's Choice table! Multi talented woman to say the least! And Liann Holcomb showed her willingness to jump into an unfamiliar arena when she fearlessly agreed (okay, didn't have much choice!) to man the spot light for the night! Without that spotlight, the contestants wouldn't have been judged fairly! Same night, same light next year Liann? And "our" winners this year are: Miss DuPage County, Valerie Lynch, a first year Law Student at Univ. of Chicago. Valerie is 22 yrs old and is an extremely strong contender for the title of Miss Illinois this year. Her platform is "Mental Health Law" which is a fascinating platform.Valerie's talent is "acupelo tap" meaning, no music!!  Miss Western Suburbs is Lauren Allen, a third year Nursing student at Indiana State University. Lauren is 21 yrs old, from Batavia. Her talent is Freestyle Gymnastics (easily could compete in the Olympics!!), she is a competing college cheerleader with a platform of "Youth Physical Fitness awareness". Lauren is also a strong contender for this year's title of Miss Illinois. I hope to have one or both of these amazing young ladies at one of our meetings so everyone can enjoy their talents in both education and arts. Thank you again to everyone who was involved in making so many young ladies (21) experience a day they'll not forget.
Laura
