President's Report
Joyce Hundhausen 464-0209, joyce@svs.com
Hi Ladies!
Hope your January has been a good one.......what a 1st
general meeting for me......what a night....I am very glad you all stayed home.....safe
and warm..
We have several open committees Public Relations; Education; Home Life;
Legislation; TLC Camp; Labor Day Parade; Nominating Committee; Candlelight Bowl 2006; Fall
Auction and its sub-committees. Please consider signing up on one of these....the more who
sign up.... the less you have to do....
Please remember to bring your Valentine and Christmas
cards, cancelled stamps, bottle tops etc.
I want to thank everyone who came to the January Board meeting; we got a
lot accomplished in such a short time. Our committees are starting to shape up and we are
going to have a great year.
Hope to see all of you on Wednesday, February 2nd at
Glendale Lakes Golf Club.

President's Report
Laura Burke 653-5664, lburke3942@aol.com
Hi Everyone!
After having just been a part of the fun task of "reporting", I was amazed at
all of the things this club does throughout a year. The most difficult part of the
reporting was zeroing in on details of what took place. Now I see how important it is for
every chairperson of a committee to turn in a detailed report immediately after the event
ends. For those of you who are chairing a committee this year, please obtain a blank
reporting form (from Judy) and place it on the top of your Club folder so you are
constantly reminded of it's importance (and if you're like me with trouble remembering
where you put it most of the time!) it'll be available when you most need it.
The reports are jam packed with everything
we've done in 2004! We may be a "small" club in numbers, but we sure are
powerful!
Congratulations on all of your efforts and
an amazing year!
Big Hug~~~ Laura
Immediate Past President/Reporting
Judy Huyvaert, 894-8615, jhuyvaert1@hotmail.com
By the time you receive this newsletter, reporting should
be completed. I want to thank Jeanette Wells, Laura Burke & Joyce Hundhausen for all
their hard work on filing the reports with me. I have plenty of report forms for all you
girls. Anything you do as club work should have a report filled out for it- not only does
it help us keep track of club work, it helps the next person who may do that activity or
event and makes it much easier for us to fill out Federation report forms.

There was no January General meeting due to heavy snow
therefore, there are no minutes for January.
Candlelight Bowl!

Hi Ladies!
I hope you are selling all those raffle tickets. Remember we
voted in November to sell 10 raffles each as a member requirement. Admission ticket sales
are important as well. Please sell what you can so we can have a full house.
Remember this fundraiser, next to the Fall Auction, is one of
our largest. We need to sell all raffle tickets and admission to reach our goal of a great
donation to C.A.S.A. and the DuPage Family Shelter Service, both great causes.
I will arrive early to collect any money you have for these
tickets. I would like all money turned in by board on February 16th. If you
cant come to board, please call me, we can make arrangements.
I will have flyers, sign sign-ups, corporate letters, and
about our charity flyers available at the General Meeting, as well as team sign up sheets.
Help! I am in need of a few door prizes. If anyone has
something small to donate, please bring it to the General Meeting or the February Board
Meeting.
Thank You ladies for all your hard work in making this
happen.

For those of you that saved the front of your holiday cards,
please bring them to the February 2nd meeting. Thank you!
Valentine's For Vet's

Once again, the club will be handing out
Valentine's Day Cards to our local Veterans. We need all hands on deck for this. Please
sign a box of Valentine's Day Cards "From the Glendale Heights Jr. Women's Club"
and turn them in no later then February 2, 2005. Thank you!

They're here!! Our long awaited brochures have arrived and
they look fabulous! We will be getting them out to various locations around town so we can
get the word out about the wonderful work our club does. We are extremely grateful to
Allegra Print & Imaging for the scholarship award which allowed us to have these
beautiful brochures!!
A Membership meeting will be scheduled soon. Some of the
ideas we have already talked about include a Membership Drive, packets of information put
together to hand out to guests and prospective members at our meetings, possibly
re-instituting the "big sister" and/ or "secret pal" programs,
recognition for years in club and a raffle for the member who brings in the most
prospective new members throughout the year. We are not sure what current members have
state pins & patches & we'd like to find out so we can get you one or both if
needed. We will try & have a sign-up for those members missing either of these items.
We have a great person who can embroider our new club logo on
any apparel you might want. Jeanette & I have tanks, polo's and a denim which all look
fantastic. We'd love to have club members wear logo apparel whenever possible to advertise
the club and especially at club functions to identify ourselves as club members. If you
are interested, bring me a shirt(s) and as soon as I collect enough, I'll bring them in.
Please safety pin your name to your shirt. Cost for embroidery is $9 for logo or $12 for
logo & your name.

Newsletter and Web Site
What will we call it? In an effort to name "our"
club newsletter, there will be a contest for anyone who submits a suggestion before our
March General meeting. All submissions will be presented to the membership in March for a
vote. The winning name will not only get to see their creative side in lights but there
will also be a surprise "prize" for their participation and winning name. Be
creative and submit your suggestion by E-mail or phone. Thanks and happy thinking!
The Club Web Site continues to be updated. The calendar
section can be very helpful when you don't have your newsletter at hand for
events/locations. We welcome suggestions while you're navigating the web site. Feel free
to send them to your webmaster using the
"Contact Us" link on the main page.

Donna Bekas, 628-0489
First, I would like to congratulate Joyce and
her great board for 2005-2006 term. I can see great things happening with this as our
leadership. Donna and I will be chairing social this year and would appreciate any
suggestions you may have for us. So far our calendar has shaped up as follows:
- February 13th: GlenOaks Foundation Fundraiser/Drury Lane
Oak Brook/Brunch followed by play. Tickets are 60.00 or if we can have a table of 8, 56.00
Please let me know ASAP if you are interested.
February 26th: Candlelight Bowl
(everyone has the details?)
March 11th: 7:30p Bunco at Ann Warrens
House. Cost is $5.00 plus either an appetizer or a dessert.
Have no fear if you do not know how to play it is super simple and we are more then
willing to show you how.
March 19th: Hopefully Chili Cookoff.
Details to follow after the location can be confirmed. This is normally held at a
clubhouse very casual. This is a great event to bring potential members to. In the past we
have charged a 5.00 cover and everyone brought their favorite chili for a contest. Perhaps
this year we could raise it to 10.00 and have it be a small fund raiser at the same time.
Let us know what you think.
April Perhaps a ladies lunch at a local
restaurant. Or some members suggested a day at Gurnee Mills
May ?
June A Friday Afternoon At Arlington Race
Track followed by dinner. This is something we had done for several years. The races begin
at 3:00 on Friday afternoons so whoever can make it there is great and then we go out to
dinner somewhere locally for anyone who would like to join us there
The rest of the year is pretty open and we would
love your input. My E-mail address is Channic@msn.com
Barb and Debbie did a great job the past two years and I know we have huge shoes to fill
but with your help it will go great!
CLC
Home Life
Our senior for the Humanity Service Project was exceptionally
taken care of this year, thanks to Joanna Seebeck. Because I was sick, Joanna took it upon
herself, to shop and deliver the great gifts our senior needed. Her shopping savvy got the
most for our money. Our senior got all new sheets and comforter for her bed, a nice
blouse, and snack treats.

Veteran Affairs
We're working on pillow cases for little pillows to sent over
seas to our Veterans and to give to Veterans in the VA hospitals.
I think there are over 25 made right now. The VFW in Villa Park will ship the
pillows with their care packages to the troops. We're also working wheel chair bags, too.

Our Hearts Are Breaking
From: Judy Huyvaert
A very special club member who is dear to our hearts, Sue
Dees, has received more bad news...
the cancer has spread to her spine, hip & knee. Please include her in your
prayers.
The Glendale Hts. Foundation has approved a donation to Sue
of $1,000.00.
We will present it to her at our meeting along with any member donations.
Sue, our prayers are with you and please don't hesitate to
let any of us know if you need anything
...and we mean anything at all!

Miss DuPage County
Scholarship Program
Laura Burke 653-5664, lburke3942@aol.com
| Date: March 6, 2005 at the Holiday Inn, Carol Stream -
6:00PM Thank you to those that have signed up
to work on this program. This year there will once again be two titles awarded, Miss
DuPage County and Miss Western Suburbs. Did you know that because we offer this program,
"our" two title holders went on to win over $8000 in cash scholarships due to
their high placements at Miss Illinois and also earned the opportunity to use over
$100,000 of In Kind Scholarships from Illinois colleges. What a great feeling to be a part
of that. If you are interested in joining this committee, please let me know as soon as
possible. The more club members we have, the more fun the night will be! Since I won't be
at the February General meeting (I'll be in Orlando followed by Atlanta and hoping the sun
comes out a while!) I'll be sending out E-mails to all of the committee members with
further details.
Thanks again to everyone participating. |
